Projects basics

Sage Intacct Projects comprises a selection of application modules and dimensions for a robust level of project tracking and management.

Projects building blocks

You can think of Sage Intacct Projects application modules and dimensions as being similar to building blocks. Your can use and combine them to track and manage projects with accuracy and efficiency.

Access to Projects module applications and dimensions is dependent on your user privileges and company subscriptions.

The following chart lists the features that are available with each Projects application.

Basic project tracking

Basic project tracking provides dimension functionality that enables you to track projects for reporting purposes. You can categorize projects and assign a status and project type to a project.

You have the flexibility to organize projects hierarchically into parent and child projects (up to 5 levels deep). The project relationships are reflected immediately in the Projects list.

Enable Projects

  1. Go to Projects > Setup > Configuration.
  2. Select Projects and then select Configure.
  3. Select the desired project options.

Project Costing

Project Costing unifies the capabilities of the Basic project tracking, Time, and Expenses, and utilizes the Task dimension. Project Costing includes the following additional features:

  • Break down a project into tasks
  • Charge project time
  • Allocate indirect cost to projects
  • Approve full timesheets
  • Support hourly and salaried labor costing, actual versus planned analysis, and usage reporting

Enable Project Costing

You enable Project Costing when you subscribe to Projects, as described in Projects, basic tracking.

Task Tracking

Task Tracking provides dimension functionality to manage task transactions for General Ledger tracking and reporting purposes. The task dimension simplifies capturing task data for projects as you enter transactions. A task is bound to a specific project. Task tracking provides access to the fields available on the Project information and Additional information pages.

Task Tracking offers limited functionality compared to what's available with Project Costing.

Enable Task Tracking

After you configure the Projects subscription, you can enable the Task dimension on the Configure General Ledger page. For more information, see Configure task dimensions.

Project Costing and Billing

Project Costing and Billing unifies the capabilities of Projects basic tracking, Time, Expenses, Project Costing and Billing, and is bundled with Project and Resource Management. This application module allows you to generate invoices for the following project types:

  • Time and Materials
  • Scheduled
  • Fixed price
  • Percent complete
  • Milestone

Enable Project Costing and Billing

To enable Project Costing and Billing, select Enable project billing when you subscribe to Projects, as described in Projects, basic tracking.

If you subscribe with Revenue Management, you can enable revenue recognition on a different schedule from billing, based on percent complete, milestone, or costs.

Project and Resource Management

Project and Resource Management is bundled with Project Costing and Billing. This application module includes all the capabilities of the other Projects applications with the addition of the following:

  • Operational and financial Gantt charts with drill-down capabilities
  • Assignment of resource skills and certification
  • Ability to find resources and assignments
  • Resource availability analysis
  • Out-of-office tracking
  • Forecast and usage reporting

Enable Project and Resource Management

Project Costing or Project Costing and Billing is required for the Project and Resource Management application module.

To enable Project and Resource Management, select Enable project and resource management when you subscribe to Projects, as described in Projects, basic tracking.
